Vegan B12
If you’re Vegan or a health conscious person who’s always looking to learn more, you know there’s no way to avoid some of the buzzwords that come with it. Among the victims of today’s click-happy culture is Vitamin B12, an irrefutably essential source of energy and overall sustainability. Alas, this won’t stop hacky trainers, influencers - and really anyone else looking to sell something silly.
Sad but true.
And while we aren’t doubting the indisputable benefits of adding Vitamin B12 to your diet, we do have some issues with how some people are spreading less-than-stellar “facts” about it.
That’s why we’re here to set the record straight!
What is Vitamin B12?
The water-soluble vitamin known as B12 is largely composed of cobalt, a known cofactor of two very important enzymes - methionine synthase and L-methylmalonyl-CoA mutase.
And if you’re wondering why they’re so special… consider this.
Methionine synthase is needed to make S-adenosylmethionine - a compound that helps to give rise to important substrates, like DNA and RNA, as well as many important proteins and lipids.
Then there’s L-methylmalonyl-CoA mutase, which speeds up the process of converting methylmalonyl-CoA to succinyl-CoA (which can later produce more energy).
In layman's terms, Vitamin B12 is essential for the development and day-to-day function of your central nervous system. It also helps to formulate healthy red blood cells, perform DNA synthesis (which creates new cells) and helps convert food to fuel.
So essentially...
Why you need Vitamin B12
If you’re at all concerned about the general wellbeing of your central nervous system, which is responsible for controlling our movements, awareness, thoughts, memory, and so on…
Then yes, you should be prioritizing Vitamin B12 as part of your daily routine. This is especially true for vegans looking for a more balanced and sustainable diet.
Core Benefits of Vitamin B12 from Terraseed
The benefits of having a healthy supply of Vitamin B12 might be surprising, considering it’s just one vitamin.
Think we’re exaggerating?
The benefits of Vitamin B12 include:
- consistent, long-term bone health
- a reduced risk of osteoporosis or macular degeneration
- better brain function
- a more consistent stream of energy
- enhanced heart health
- an elevated mood
- healthier hair, skin and nails
On the contrary, you could feel… not so great if you have a Vitamin B12 deficiency.
So if you’re experiencing:
- abnormally pale skin or yellow/discolored eyes (caused by a lack of blood circulation)
- mouth/tongue ulcers or pins and needles sensations (caused by oral nerve damage)
- compromised vision (caused by optic nerve damage, which can impair your vision)
- weakness or fatigue (caused by a lack of oxygen distribution throughout the body)
… then you may have a Vitamin B12 deficiency.
